Spring into action this spring on Cape Cod
It may still be cold outside, but spring is just around the corner. It’s a glorious time of year to visit the Cape. Breathe the crisp spring air while strolling along the quiet beaches, hike or bike one of the many scenic trails, explore shops just opening their doors for the season, savor a myriad of flavors at local restaurants and enjoy some of the many fun activities featured around the Cape.
As we will be welcoming guests back to our beautiful Red Jacket Resorts in no time, we’d like to share some of our favorite activities of the season to help you start planning your spring getaway! There’s something for everyone, from seafarers to flower-lovers, and of course, families.
1. Cape Cod Museum Trail
Plan to visit a variety of museums along the trail from its tip at the Pilgrim Monument in Provincetown to Heritage Museums and Gardens in Sandwich. Enjoy history, nature, art and more along the Cape Cod Museum Trail. Visit their website to start planning.
2. Whale Watching
Season opens April 18, 2020
It’s only January and the North Atlantic Right Whales are already showing off in the waters off Cape Cod. Over half of the world’s population of right whales visit our Cape Cod waters every winter and spring. Come witness these majestic creatures up close and without the tourist crowds of the summer. 3. Plymouth 400 Commemoration Opening Ceremony

4. Heritage Museum & Gardens
Opening day April 25, 2020
A feast for the senses, colorful blooms, fragrant flowers, singing birds and endless discoveries, immerse yourself in the experience that is Heritage. Brimming with serene walking trails, outdoor exploration, art and history exhibits, an antique working carousel, impressive antique car collection and endless gardens, Heritage is a beloved attraction for old and young alike. 5. APRIL VACATION at our Red Jacket Beach Resort
April 17 - 24, 2020
We’re excited to kick-off our season and dive into our Kids Club activities for April school vacation. We’ll be featuring a live animal show, the ever-popular video game bus, marshmallow roasting on the lawn, arts and crafts, games, cookie decorating, movie night and more! 6. 27th Annual Cape Cod Maritime Days
Designated one of the Top 100 Events in North America by the American Bus Association, meet your inner mariner and explore all things nautical on Cape Cod. Activities include guided kayak excursions, lighthouse and walking tours, nautical art exhibits and more. Visit their website here.
7. Brewster In Bloom
May 1 - 3, 2020
The explosion of bright yellow daffodils is at the heart of this beloved weekend festival. Featuring kids’ fests, arts and antiques excursions, gardening talks, a variety of demonstrations, open houses, historic tours, a 5k road race, chowder fest, an epic arts and crafts show, live music concerts and of course, the Brewster in Bloom parade. 8. ArtWeek Cape Cod
May 1 - 10, 2020
This season’s Cape & Island events offer something for everyone, with events spanning many creative genres. Learn photography tips at a moon-rise class at the Highland Lighthouse Museum and get a history lesson during an interactive photo walk in Hyannis and Barnstable; join the Cape Cod Mini Maker Faire in Mashpee; see dancers bring poetry to life on Nantucket; make your own ceramics in Chatham; learn how art and science intersect in South Yarmouth; and much more. 9. Reebok Ragnar Relay Race
May 8 - 9, 2020
This epic relay race covers 200’ish miles from Duxbury to Cape Cod, ending at Smuggler’s Beach in Yarmouth. Whether you want to join in the challenge or are a spectator, honking, cheering and celebrating are the hallmarks of the race! Learn more here.
TIP: The race wraps up on Saturday with a beach party at Smuggler’s Beach, just around the corner from our Blue Water Resort. 10. 2nd Annual SeaFair at Sandwich Glass Museum

Learn the art of glass-making and join the celebration of sea-inspired glass. Sea creatures, waves, mermaids, beaches and the like will be specially curated for this unique show and tent sale. 11. Rhododendron Festival at Heritage Museum & Gardens
May 23 - 30, 2020
Thousands of world-famous rhododendrons in over 100 varieties offer an explosion of spectacular blooms throughout Heritage. Enjoy a peaceful walk surrounded by walls of flowers, learn more about Heritage’s storied rhododendron legacy, participate in activities with horticulture experts, and take home one of these signature plants from the special plant sale. 12. Figawi Race Weekend
May 22 - 25, 2020
It’s the unofficial kick-off to summer! With over 240 boats and 3,000 participants, you won't want to miss the annual Figawi Race over Memorial Day Weekend. The race begins in Lewis Bay and can best be seen from Kalmus Beach, but those staying at our Green Harbor Resort can catch a glimpse from our beach as well. Cape Cod’s infamous “Doug”—the region’s beloved official Quahog since 2009—will deliver his highly anticipated annual summer forecast and predict how many beach days we can look forward to in 2020.
