Taking a train ride through the mountainous terrain of North Conway is one of the best ways to see the Valley, no matter the time of year.
New England-born poet Edna St. Vincent Millay once said, "There isn't a train I wouldn't take," and we're willing to bet she would love what the Mount Washington Valley has to offer in terms of its rail service.
There are two operational railways within a short drive of Red Jacket Mountain View Resort: Conway Scenic Railroad and Mount Washington Cog Railway.
Conway Scenic Railroad invites guests to enjoy an "old-fashioned train ride" on one of its two historic trains, the Valley Train and Notch Train. All trains on the Conway Scenic Railroad depart right from the heart of North Conway at 1874 Station and range in trip time from 55 minutes to 5-and-a-half hours. The Valley Train is seasonal and operates from the early spring through the fall, and the Notch train opens a bit later in the season (closer to summer).
The Mount Washington Cog Railway operates year-round and offers train trips to the summit of Mount Washington, offering unreal views of the mountains and valley below. The Cog trains, a variety of biodiesel and steam engines, depart from Bretton Woods which is about 40 minutes from Red Jacket Mountain View Resort.
Fun fact: The Cog Railway has been operating for 150 years!
